Brandon and Alicia's first official date was on January 31, 2007. In an attempt to "keep things simple" and avoid any awkward situations, they attended the University of Michigan versus Iowa basketball game. The embarrassing details of this date: In his words...
After we had our first quasi-dinner together, it was still a few weeks away before we had our "first" date. I would say that our first official date was traveling to Ann Arbor, Michigan (after work) to go watch a basketball game.
So, in the 12 degree weather, with 50 mph wind gusts (making it feel more like NEGATIVE 20 outside), we traveled to watch University of Michigan LOSE to Iowa. The best part was passing the basketball stadium three times and then finally parking about 2 miles away, where we ended up walking in the bitter cold.
After what seemed like hours, we finally got to the stadium and started watching Michigan. At half-time we got a veggie sandwich, some nachos, and some cinnamon coated almonds (I later found out almonds were one of Alicia's favorite snacks). During the game (as is always the case when you go to a sporting event), we sat directly in front of the most obnoxious fan. He had decided to bring cymbals and a horn with him to show his unwavering team support. (The funny part is that no alcohol was served at the stadium, so he was just naturally that insane).
The highlight of the night was when my sister called me to let me know that my ex-girlfriend just won Miss Washington DC and would be participating in the Miss America pageant. I found this funny, although Alicia did not seem to find it as amusing as I did. Needless to say, this phone call pretty much put an end to "DATE NUMBER ONE" – THANKS SIS!
